The Heat Death of Our Suns
2023
The Heat Death of Our Suns follows in the footsteps of my prior book What I Learned in the Light in that it is a personal narrative that is carried by light and poetry. The narratives depart in tone and theming, where the former is about the spirituality of heartache and survival, this latest book is about the wholehearted nature found in queer and spiritual relationships. This book sees me writing and photographing my way through 2022, creating an artistic journal that contains new and old loves- each more radically affectionate than I could have anticipated.
Being a journaled document, coping is still present, but is given the wider context of hope. As a trans woman, I want hope to be the takeaway from this narrative, that the trans people to come can take my book and see the beauty that is pervasive in our trans lives when we decide to honor ourselves and live in the affirmation of life.
The Heat Death of Our Suns was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter, was represented in the Minnesota Center for Book Art’s New Editions show, and was collected by the Hennepin County Library for their artist book collection.
